SUSTAINABILITY & CSR

SIP & SWAP

Sustainability is about creativity and I’m inviting you specially to join me for an afternoon celebrating curation over consumption.

How it works: As you’re gearing up for the summer break or summer body, start to put aside pieces you’ve outgrown (physically or mentally).

Clothes for the Sip & Swap MUST be clean, be of good quality, and in good condition: not worn out, faded, pillaged, pongy or damaged. (Good quality also means something you would gift to a friend). Please be mindful and considerate of what other swappers will be happy to receive.

We can’t guarantee guests will find their sizes as it depends on what other guests bring; Regardless, accessories are included in the pool, so there will be something for everyone. Therefore, we encourage ALL SIZES to participate in the swap. This swap is for ALL GENDERS so we welcome clothing designed for male, female, unisex and all body types

Items to bring: trousers skirts, tops, jumpers, coats, jumpsuits, dresses, shoes, jackets, bags, scarves, hats, and jewellery.

HOW THE SWAP WORKS

  1. Curate 1 – 5 (maximum) items of clothing or accessories to add to the swap collection pool.
  2. Clothing would have been checked in and then sorted onto racks and tables by partner
  3. Guests can only begin taking and trying on swap items only after the swap is officially declared open by the host at 2 pm. This will take place after the brief welcome and introduction at the beginning.

We will have on hand:

  • A stylist
  • Jewellery restorer
  • Accessories restorer and an alterations expert to make sure that your “new” pieces fit into your lifestyle

You can register your interest here and upload images and information about your pieces here

As you seek out your new wardrobe faves, there will be ample networking with really cool people and some yummy nibbles.

Clean out your closet and refresh your wardrobe

MIND THE GAP

We cannot stop natural disasters, but we can arm ourselves with knowledge: so many lives wouldn’t be lost if there was enough disaster preparedness. – Petra Nemcova

Our Mind the Gap initiative offers everyone information, support, and advice on emergency care in our communities. We provide free first aid training to over 100 schools and businesses across Nigeria each year.

Our mission is to make first aid a part of everyone’s life, by delivering a range of learning opportunities designed to make the community of Nigeria more resilient.

First Aid Focus

Accidents can happen at any time; sometimes the only person available to help is a young person.

Would your students know what to do?

Mind the Gap provides First Aid Focus, a free in-school program that allows Nigerian students to learn basic first aid skills. This program offers fun, engaging, age-appropriate classes for all students ranging from Primary 5 – Senior Secondary Class 3. Our Experienced Community Education Officers demonstrate the correct first-aid approach, as well as students, have the opportunity to practice and rehearse these life-saving skills.

Schools must have a minimum of 10 consecutive classes

Skills promoted by the program

Experienced Community Education Officers demonstrate the correct first-aid approach and students have the opportunity to practise and rehearse these life-saving skills. The practical skill-based sessions support students learning by teaching them how to enhance their own and others’ health, safety and well-being in varied and changing contexts.

The sessions also provide opportunities for students to:

  •         Develop and refine resilience skills.
  •         Learn and practice the ability to make safe decisions, manage risk and take actions to promote the health and safety of themselves and others.
  •         Learn to take a critical approach to and to access, analyse and apply a variety of resources for the benefit of themselves and the communities.

Areas of training include:

  •         Flood & Pedestrian safety
  •         Pre-hospital care:

o    Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

o    First Aid at home and school

o    Sprains and Strains

o    Burns and Scalds

o    Allergic Reaction

o    Electric Shock

o    Choking

FIRE & RESCUE:

  •         How to put out a grease fire
  •         How to use a fire extinguisher
  •         Safety precautions for a residential fire

Accidental injury poses one of the greatest threats to children’s health and safety around the world. Learn how to respond quickly and appropriately to common causes of injury in babies and children.

  •         First aid for babies and children
  •         First aid for adults
  •         First aid demonstrations at community events.

Every minute counts in a crisis. But no matter where you are in the world, professional medical help may not always be immediately available. By taking action through effective first aid, we can save countless lives.

In most cases, first aid is performed by passers-by—usually members of the public—who witness an accident or emergency. When trained, people can provide basic medical care to treat minor injuries and preserve life until professional medical help arrives.

Our Mind the Gap training course is designed to train personnel in how to respond to First Aid emergencies that may happen at home, office or anywhere in daily life. We provide an introduction to the key concepts and first aid techniques to address emergency situations—including choking, burns, wounds and cardiac arrest until qualified emergency help arrives at the scene of the incident.

Areas of training include:

  •         Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  •         Anaphylaxis
  •         Asthma
  •         Heart conditions
  •         Stroke
  •         Diabetes
  •         Seizures
  •         Shock
  •         Bites & stings
  •         Trauma & Injuries
  •         Stress Management
